Addressing critical data and evidence gaps in European immunisation policy

Critical gaps in data and evidence undermine decision-making on immunisation policies and programmes across Europe. Closing them is the foundation for stronger, better-coordinated immunisation systems.

The challenge

Why this matters

The absence of harmonised, comparable data at European level prevents effective policy coordination. Without robust evidence, decision-makers cannot reliably identify where coverage is falling, which groups are underserved, or which interventions work best.

MBVE recommends strengthening data collection and evidence generation, and aligning decision-making through a common European value framework.

Key issues

  • Gaps in adult immunisation coverage data across Europe
  • Lack of harmonised surveillance across EU member states
  • Data fragmentation between national registries
  • The case for a European-level immunisation monitoring framework
